HLTH 315 Blog # 10 – A POEM

We have discussed health and its connection to education all semester. For your final blog comment you will create an ACROSTIC Poem using the words HEALTH & EDUCATION.

An acrostic poem is, a short verse composition, constructed so that one or more sets of letters (such as the initial, middle, or final letters of the lines), taken consecutively, form words. Below is an example using the word acrostic:

ACROSTIC

An acrostic poem
Can be about anything
Really
Of course, some people like to
Start each line as a sentence, though
I prefer weaving words into a
Creation that is more free form.

Here is another example using my first name:

JANIS

Janis is
A
Natural woman, and is
Interested
Sincerely, in your acrostic poem about health & education.

The words must connect to health & education, course content, and make sense in order for you to earn points for this blog comment.

Reflection will not be assessed for this comment. I will assess CONTENT (4 points), CRITICAL THINKING (4 points) and PRESENTATION (2 points).

Your turn, and have fun with it!

HEALTH & EDUCATION

Hot dogs from the corner store; grandmas famous lemon doughnuts &
Earline won’t let you leave until you’ve tried her high-in-salt-BBQ-sandwiches
“All the way please.” I sang.
Little did I know,
This was torture to my tummy!
Health physicians tried to warn me
& (ignore this &)
“Eat in moderation ” Mrs. Mcwayne tried to inform me.
“Don’t you think you’re overdoing it with the salt?” dad would scold me.
Unhealthy snacks slouched out of my lunch bags at work.
Cookie crumbs hid in between the creases of my drivers’ seat.
Apples, oranges, pomegranate and bananas rotted in my fruit bowl.
Taking care of my health was not that important to me...until
I started feeling icky and decided to make a change.
On this day April 22, 2012 I will make healthier decisions,
Now is the time that I ditch junk food and choose nutrition.

Healthy eating habits decreases disease
Exercise strengthens your muscles
Always get the recommended amount of sleep
Learning about prevention is the first step in staying healthy
Having a good knowledge about healthy habits can teach others about health
&
Even when you think you can’t stay healthy, you can.
During the day eat the recommended amount of calories
Unless told otherwise children need 90 minutes of exercise
Causes of disease can be passed down by genes or can developed over time
Attention needs to be focused on children so that they don’t develop bad health habits
Teachers need to put more emphasis on health towards their students
I can be a health advocate
Overweight children can develop diseases quicker in life
Never think you can’t exercise because with a will there is a way!

Health and

Education is the top priority

Amongst

Low socioeconomic status of students and

Teachers within Elementary and

High schools.
&
Everyone can do their part to help

Distribute health and education content

Under the roof of low SES students.

Children are our future, they

Are

The reason why we

Integrate and focus on

Obesity, sex, high blood pressure, diabetes, exercise etc. in our classrooms.

No one should suffer from being unhealthy! Be active, start being healthy today!

Health
Education is
A
Learning experience
That
Helps you become more educated about your student’s health
&
Educating yourself about your student’s and their health helps
Determine if you are going to be the best teacher you can be and
Usually a good teacher
Can tell what it’s going to be like in
A classroom if they do
Their homework before they get
Into the classroom so they can be
On top of everything and so that they will know they will
Not have to worry about anything but connecting and getting to know the students

Health education is a pathway to a healthier America.
Every student that I teach gives an opportunity to promote healthy behaviors.
Avoiding the use of alcohol and other drugs helps to preserve a healthy mind
Learning how to deal with stress makes a student better able to achieve success.
Type 2 diabetes is preventable by being physically active and eating healthy.
HIV risk can be reduced by abstaining from sex until married, not using illegal drugs, and following universal precautions.
Environmental health education teaches students how to take care and preserve nature.
Developing a physical fitness plan helps students to commit to daily physical activity.
Understanding how to eat healthy will lower weight and reduce risk for diseases like cardiovascular disease
Communicable diseases are those that can be passed on from one living thing to another such as a virus.
A teacher should always be a positive role model for how to live a healthful life.
Teaching my students to say “No!” will allow them to become better able to resist peer pressure.
Informing the community on healthy behaviors will allow the community to become more aware of healthy living.
Obtaining proper education will give me a better opportunity to infuse health into the curriculum that I am teaching.
Nutrition is an essential part of living and maintaining a healthy life.

How to be healthy is

Easy to do

All you have to do is diet and exercise

Limit cravings and remember

Time wasted on junk foods can never be retrieved

Having a lifestyle that is healthy is what you and your student should want to achieve.

& (ignore this &)

Educate yourself and your students

Don’t ever think it’s too late

Understand what it means to be healthy

Continue to get regular amounts of exercise

Take time out for yourself

If one thing doesn’t work try something else

Overnight results should not be expected

Not everyone one is the same.

Health is
Easy to maintain,
At least it is most of the time.
Luckily, health education
Teaches young people tips on how to stay
Healthy.

Educating students
Depends on the teacher’s
Understanding of the
Child’s home life.
Thanks to Francis Marion University
I am able to learn how to
Open up to my future students and understand their
Needs.
